Nirmal paintings

Check out our Nirmal collection of paintings. Unique and fascinating, these  paintings are sure to make your house more lively.

From the rustic ethos to the royal environment, from flora to fauna, an explicit array of expressions is portrayed in myriad colors and forms on Nirmal paintings. This art form named after its place of origin, Nirmal in adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh, is practiced by an exclusive group of artisans called 'Naqash', In the 1950's, Lady Hyderi brought the artisans to Hyderabad and promoted this craft. Indigenous colors extracted from Miniralsm, gums and herbs are used for the paintings. The concept and themes suggest influences from Indian schools like Kangra, Ajanta and from Moghul miniatures. The paintings of dazzling golden hue are set against a dark backdrop. The rhythm of a musician and the graceful movement of a danseuse captivate the onlooker with their sheer expression and form.

Mysore art - wooden marquetry

This art is  at least few centuries old handicraft patronized by various rulers of Mysore. The craft technique involves the gluing of different layers of wood together to form the final picture. Various colored woods are creatively used to achieve different patterns. Ivory was used for the white pattern which is now done with plastic. To prevent deforestation, this wood is now sanctioned only by the Forest Department of Karnataka state, India.

But what is so unique about the wooden marquetry art work? Well to know that you should actually hold one in your hand and get into the details. It is not a painting!!! It is similar to a jigsaw puzzle assembled from different pieces. 'Awesome' is the first word that strikes to you when you hold this art work. There are less than .5% in this world who actually know about this art form.

Cheriyal - Scroll paintings

Check out our Cheriyal collection of paintings. Beautiful religious and artistic paintings for decorating your walls. Every painting is unique in it's own way, You will instantly fall in love by their sheer beauty and knowing the making process and history behind them
These paintings are made pain painstakingly in a remote village called  'Cheriyal' in Andhra Pradesh, India.
The Cheriyal Scrolls are drawn on hand made khadi cloth specially processed with applying a paste of tamarind seed along with a tree gum and white clay.
Three coats of the paste are applied, allowing a day in between for the paste to dry.
Once the scroll is ready, the artist draws the outline, using a squirrel haired brush, in a phased manner.
The colours used in the Cherial (Cheriyal) Scroll Painting follows a predetermined system. The striking red colour fills the background.
The colour of the face and skin is decided by the nature of the character, like blue and yellow are for Gods and Goddesses respectively. Brown or darker shades are for demons, while pink and skin tones are for humans.
In the past, natural dyes were used. White was obtained from grounded sea shells, black from lamp soot, yellow from turmeric, blue from indigo and the others from various vegetable dyes and grounded stones.
Today the natural dyes have largely been replaced by commercial organic water colours, which are mixed with tree gums, before being applied on the scroll.
The water coloured based Cheriyal Scrolls are said to last over 300 years, provided they don’t come in contact with water.

Silpa - Sculputures

The name given to the Indian metalwork, Bidri, is derived from the city of Bidar, where it has been produced since at least the seventeenth century.  It is composed of an alloy of zinc (~95%) and copper (~5%) and is heavily inlaid or overlaid with silver and possibly gold or brass to produce an intricate design before it is finally polished.  The metalwork is unusual in that the Bidri alloy is patinated, forming a deep black surface that contrasts with the various metal inlay.
